Boomers Vista is the only Boomers family fun park still open in San Diego County. It’s in North County at 1525 W. Vista Way, with go-karts, mini golf, bumper boats, laser tag, kids’ rides and an arcade. An all-day unlimited pass costs $39.99 to $46.99 online, depending on the day. If you remember the Boomers on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in Kearny Mesa or the one in El Cajon, both closed in 2020 and the land has been redeveloped.

What happened to Boomers San Diego (Kearny Mesa and El Cajon)

The “Boomers San Diego” that most locals grew up with was on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, often described as the Clairemont or Kearny Mesa Boomers. Brothers John and Jim Huish opened it in 1974 as the San Diego Family Fun Center, and it became Boomers in 1998. Apex Parks Group owned the San Diego County Boomers parks. Apex filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020, and the Kearny Mesa and El Cajon parks were shut for good.

The Huish family briefly brought the Kearny Mesa site back under its original Family Fun Center name. It reopened on September 5, 2020, and then closed permanently on January 4, 2022. That site has since been demolished. The El Cajon park never reopened. Its main building and mini golf course were torn down in 2022, and the land went to a car dealership.

Vista is the one that survived. Ownership has changed more than once. Herschend Family Entertainment acquired it with Palace Entertainment in early 2025, and Lucky Strike Entertainment bought it later that year. It still runs under the Boomers name.

Attractions and height requirements

Attraction Height rule at Vista
Go-karts 58” to drive, 40” to ride as a passenger
Bumper boats 44” to drive, 40” to ride as a passenger
Laser tag 44” minimum
Magic Tea Cups (kids’ ride) 36” to ride alone, 58” maximum
Mini golf No height rule listed
Arcade Pay-per-play card

Check the go-karts height rule first if you have kids. A child under 58 inches can ride as a passenger with an adult driver but can’t drive. Boomers’ mini golf is billed as a championship-style course with upgraded obstacles. It’s the cheapest thing to do here, and people of any age can play.

The current attraction list doesn’t include batting cages or a Ferris wheel, though people still search for both at Boomers. If batting cages are what you’re after, call the park before you drive up.

Prices and passes (Boomers Vista, 2026)

These prices come from the park’s passes and offers page. Buying online saves a few dollars on the main pass.

Pass Price Notes
All-Day Unlimited Attractions, Mon–Thu $39.99 online / $42.99 in park Includes a $10 arcade card
All-Day Unlimited Attractions, Fri–Sun $46.99 online / $49.99 in park Includes a $10 arcade card
Kids All-Day Pass (36”–48”) $21.99 weekday / $24.99 weekend Includes a $10 arcade card
Single mini golf round or attraction $16.99 Arcade not included
After School Unlimited $22.99 Mon–Thu until 6 p.m., in park only
Sunset at Boomers $29.99 Sun–Thu from 6 p.m., $10 arcade card
Boomers After Dark $39.99 Fri–Sat from 7 p.m., $10 arcade card

A few rules are worth knowing. Unlimited passes cover one day only, and the arcade card is a fixed $10 balance, not unlimited play. Passes expire 18 months after you buy them, and online specials can’t be bought at the park. Rides can close for weather or maintenance, so an unlimited pass isn’t a guarantee that every attraction will be running.

If you only want to try one or two things, single tickets make sense. If you plan to do three or more, the unlimited pass usually works out cheaper. A weekday after-school or Sunset pass is the cheapest way to spend a few hours here. The passes page doesn’t list a season pass at the moment, so ask the park about annual options.

Planning a visit: how long and how much

Most families spend two to four hours at Boomers. A typical run is a round of mini golf, a few go-kart laps, the bumper boats and a laser tag game, then the arcade card to finish. Here’s how the costs compare for a family of four on a weekday: four single tickets for mini golf alone cost about $68. Four online unlimited passes cost about $160 and cover every ride for the day, plus $40 in arcade credit. For kids between 36 and 48 inches, the cheaper Kids All-Day Pass covers what they can actually ride. Don’t pay adult unlimited prices for a child who’s too short for the go-karts.

Food and drink are sold on site, including a pizza and pitcher combo, but the park doesn’t post a price for it online. Budget extra for snacks, and keep in mind that the arcade can quickly eat through more money than the passes cost. Set a limit before the kids start playing.

Arcade prizes and redemption tickets work the same as at most fun centers. Kids usually need a lot of play to win the bigger prizes, so it can help to agree ahead of time that the arcade card is a fixed treat, not something you’ll top up.

Getting there and tips

Boomers Vista sits in inland North County, close to Oceanside, Carlsbad and San Marcos. It’s the nearest Boomers if you searched for mini golf in San Marcos. Driving is the easiest way to get there. You’ll want a car for North County in general, and our getting around guide covers the transit options if you don’t have one.

  • Go early on weekends. Lines for the karts and bumper boats build through the afternoon.
  • Dress for water. Bumper boats splash.
  • Book parties ahead. Weekend party slots fill up. Call the groups line.
  • Pair it with LEGOLAND. LEGOLAND California in Carlsbad is a short drive away if you’re making a North County weekend of it.

Alternatives closer to central San Diego

With Kearny Mesa gone, there’s no Boomers-style all-in-one park in central San Diego. These come closest:

  • Belmont Park, Mission Beach: an oceanfront amusement park with the historic Giant Dipper roller coaster, rides, an arcade and games. It’s the best central pick for a Boomers-style day out. See our Belmont Park guide.
  • Mini golf around the county: Our San Diego mini golf guide lists the courses still open, from beach-area putt-putt to more elaborate courses.
  • Indoor go-karts: K1 Speed runs indoor electric karting in San Diego and in Carlsbad. Its height and age rules are different from an outdoor family track, so check them before you go.
  • Rainy-day options: Ice skating at Ice Town or the Fleet Science Center work when the weather won’t cooperate.

Who Boomers Vista suits

Boomers Vista is best for families with kids old enough to clear the 58-inch go-kart line and for teen groups who want a few hours of karts, laser tag and arcade games. Families with toddlers will get less out of it, since the tea cups and mini golf are the main options for little ones. If you’re staying downtown and don’t have a car, Belmont Park is the easier trip.
