LEGOLAND California: Rides, Water Park & SEA LIFE Aquarium

LEGOLAND California Resort in Carlsbad is three parks in one: the LEGOLAND theme park (more than 60 rides, shows and attractions for kids 2 to 12), the LEGOLAND Water Park (closed for the season until spring 2027) and the indoor SEA LIFE Aquarium next door. Online theme park tickets currently start at $69 per person versus $139 at the gate, and parking is $40 per car.
The resort is at One LEGOLAND Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92008, in North County San Diego. It’s built for younger kids, and that’s what sets it apart. Most rides suit preschoolers and early grade-schoolers, and the big new addition, the indoor Galacticoaster in LEGO Galaxy, takes kids from 36 inches tall when they ride with an adult.
Tickets: what each one covers
From the official tickets page:
- Theme park admission: from $69 per person online (front gate price: $139). The online ticket currently includes free SEA LIFE entry and any seasonal events running that day.
- Resort Hopper: covers the theme park, Water Park and SEA LIFE. This is the only way into the Water Park, because theme-park-only tickets don’t include it.
- Annual passes: from $19 a month with a 12-month minimum and an initial payment from $83. Annual Premium and Preferred passes include regular parking.
- Hotel + tickets: packages with kids’ tickets from $39 per day were on offer through November 17, 2026.
Buy online and in advance. The gap between the gate price and the online price is large enough to cover parking and lunch.
Fastrack (what replaced Reserve & Ride)
Since February 1, 2026, LEGOLAND’s paid line-skip program is Fastrack Ride Access, which replaced Reserve & Ride. It gives you a dedicated priority queue on select rides. Prices and tiers aren’t published on the help pages, so check the app or the Extras & Experiences section when you book.
If you searched for “LEGOLAND Express,” note that it’s also a ride: a little train in the theme park, not a ticket upgrade. Riders under 36 inches need a responsible rider at least 36 inches tall.
Ride height requirements
LEGOLAND’s height restriction list is strict, and the park says exceptions aren’t possible. Some rides also have weight limits, which are posted at each entrance.
| Ride | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Galacticoaster | 36” with an adult; 48” alone; max 6’6” |
| The Dragon | 40” |
| LEGO Technic Coaster | 42” and age 4+ |
| Coastersaurus | 36” |
| Pirate Reef | 36” |
| Lost Kingdom Adventure | 30” |
| G-Force Test Facility | 40” and age 4+ with an adult; 56” and age 10+ alone; max 6’4” |
| Driving School | Ages 6 to 13 (no height limit) |
| Coast Cruise, Queen Watevra’s Carousel | No minimum with an adult |
| Explorer River Quest | No minimum |
Companion rules matter here. On Emmet’s Flying Adventure, Launch & Land, LEGO NINJAGO The Ride and Unikitty’s Disco Drop, riders under 48 inches need a companion who is 14 or older and at least 48 inches tall. On LEGO City: Deep Sea Adventure, the cutoff is 52 inches. Kids under 5 must ride Pharaoh’s Revenge with a responsible adult.
Galacticoaster is the newest headline ride. It’s an indoor space coaster where riders design their own spacecraft on touchscreens before boarding, and it reaches 40 mph.
SEA LIFE Aquarium at LEGOLAND
The SEA LIFE Aquarium is a fully indoor, climate-controlled aquarium right next to the theme park, with its own entrance. It’s home to more than 350 species and over 5,000 animals: sharks, rays, sea horses, jellyfish, octopuses and reef fish. The highlight is a walk-through ocean tunnel where sharks swim overhead. There’s also a dive show and a rockpool where kids can touch sea stars and anemones. Talks and feedings are included.
How to get in: it’s included with select hopper tickets and annual passes (and with the current online theme park deal), or you can buy a standalone SEA LIFE ticket or a SEA LIFE Hopper.
Hours: SEA LIFE keeps its own schedule, separate from the theme park. On November 4, 2026, for example, it ran 12 to 5 p.m. while the theme park ran 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can enter up until closing time. Check the opening hours calendar for your date.
Time needed: most visitors spend 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Strollers aren’t allowed inside except on days when the theme park is closed, so plan to park the stroller outside.
Paid add-ons include a Reptile Encounter ($100 per group) and a Shark Feed ($150 per group).
Because it’s indoors, it’s a good midday break from the sun or a rainy-day backup.
LEGOLAND Water Park
The Water Park has seven slides, sandy beach areas and the Build-A-Raft River. You enter through the main theme park, and you need same-day admission to both, which means a Resort Hopper ticket.
Season and hours
For 2026 the Water Park ran from March 21 to October 25, with daily operation in June and July. It is now closed until spring 2027. The separate LEGO CHIMA Water Park area ran June 13 to September 6, 2026. Daily hours change without notice, so check the LEGOLAND app on the day.
Life jackets, swimwear and water shoes
- Free life jackets are available first come, first served. If you bring your own, only U.S. Coast Guard-approved jackets with the label attached are allowed. No other floaties.
- Swimwear: avoid wetsuits and swimwear with exposed zippers or buttons. They aren’t allowed on the slides.
- Water shoes can’t be worn on the slides. The Surf Shop sells them for walking around.
Cabanas
Private, shaded cabanas come in standard and premium options and include all-day host service for food and drinks. Prices aren’t published on the main page, so check the Water Park Cabanas page and book early for summer weekends.
Food, drinks and bags
LEGOLAND is more relaxed than most big parks. Its help center says:
- You may bring small, single-portion snacks and bottled water into the theme park, aquarium and Water Park.
- No glass containers. Snacks shouldn’t need heating or refrigeration.
- Large coolers and full family meals stay in the car.
There are no designated picnic areas, but you can eat in the grassy areas of Miniland USA or in the green spaces just outside the gates. Get a hand stamp at the front gate turnstiles if you want to leave and come back the same day.
Backpacks are fine. All bags are searched at security, which uses walk-through metal detectors and handheld wands, so arrive early.
Parking and getting there
Rates from LEGOLAND’s parking help page:
- Cars and motorcycles: $40
- Preferred parking (closer to the entrance): from $45
- Buses, campers and RVs: from $45
The parking toll typically opens 45 minutes before the resort, and you can prebook in the app (though not a specific spot). Disabled parking is in the Preferred lot.
Driving: exit I-5 at Cannon Road, head east, then turn right on LEGOLAND Drive and follow the signs.
Hotels on site
The resort has two themed hotels with about 500 rooms between them, both steps from the park entrance:
- LEGOLAND Hotel: LEGO DUPLO, Friends, NINJAGO, Adventure and Pirate rooms, plus new LEGO City rooms. It has a heated pool, an indoor castle play area and two restaurants.
- LEGOLAND Castle Hotel: Knights & Dragons, Royal Princess and Magic Wizard rooms. It has a pool, outdoor playgrounds, an outdoor movie theater and one restaurant.
Both include free hot breakfast daily (not on check-in day), early theme park access, separate kids’ sleeping areas and nightly entertainment. The resort is under 2 miles from the nearest beach, so a split day of park and coast is easy.
Holiday season: Christmas Bricktacular
Christmas Bricktacular runs on select dates from November 21, 2026 through January 3, 2027, followed by a Kids’ New Year’s Eve on December 31. Seasonal events are included with theme park admission.
Restaurants and nearby pairings
Inside the resort, the two hotels have three restaurants between them, on top of the in-park dining. For a sit-down meal away from the park, Carlsbad has plenty of restaurants a short drive from the resort.
LEGOLAND is the most toddler-friendly of San Diego’s big three parks. For older kids who have outgrown it, compare SeaWorld on Mission Bay or the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido. In spring, North County’s strawberry fields make an easy add-on.
