Fashion Valley mall stores

Fashion Valley’s draw is the mix: department stores, a deep bench of luxury labels and the everyday chains you would expect at a regional mall. Simon, which runs the center, says about 50 of its retailers are exclusive to the San Diego market.

Department stores

Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s are the anchors, and there is a JCPenney by the transit center on the southwest side.

Luxury and designer

This is the main reason people drive across the county to shop here. The current directory includes Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, Dior, Cartier, Saint Laurent, Versace, Celine, Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Louboutin and Golden Goose. A 2023 renovation added Bottega Veneta, David Yurman, Tudor, Veronica Beard and Zimmermann, and the center has announced that Fendi is on the way. Check the store directory before you go, because luxury tenants open and move often.

The stores people search for most

  • Sephora: on the lower level near Tory Burch, toward Macy’s. Park in Structure F by The Cheesecake Factory for the shortest walk.
  • Tiffany & Co.: in the current directory.
  • Williams Sonoma: in the current directory, for kitchen and cookware shopping.
  • Build-A-Bear Workshop: at Fashion Valley. If you searched “Build-A-Bear Mission Valley,” this is the location you want.
  • Apple: in the current directory.
  • AMC Theatres: a movie theater on site, near the Dining Terrace.

You will also find mid-priced favorites such as Zara, H&M, Uniqlo and Lululemon, plus newer arrivals Rowan and SKIMS.

Fashion Valley restaurants and food court

Sit-down restaurants

The dining page lists these restaurants:

Restaurant Style
The Cheesecake Factory Big American menu, long waits at peak times
True Food Kitchen Health-focused American
NoRTH Italia Italian
P.F. Chang’s Chinese
California Pizza Kitchen Pizza and salads
Blanco Tacos + Tequila Mexican
Craft House Fashion Valley New American with Mexican influences
Silverlake Ramen Ramen
Qin West Noodle Chinese noodles
Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar Island-style American with a bar
Neiman Marcus Cafe Upscale lunch inside the store
Marketplace Cafe at Nordstrom Casual counter-service cafe inside Nordstrom

For a quieter lunch, the Nordstrom cafe (Marketplace Cafe) and the Neiman Marcus Cafe are easy to overlook and often have shorter waits than the big restaurants.

Food court: the Cafe Terrace

Fashion Valley’s food court is the Cafe Terrace on the upper level. It is smaller than the food courts at enclosed malls, but it covers quick meals: Panda Express, Sbarro, Wetzel’s Pretzels, Suki Hana and Poki One N Half.

For snacks and drinks around the mall, look for Better Buzz coffee (two locations), Starbucks in Macy’s, Pinkberry, Pressed juice, Ding Tea, Läderach chocolate and Parfait Paris.

Looking for Cinnabon? There is no Cinnabon in the current Fashion Valley directory. Wetzel’s Pretzels on the Cafe Terrace is the closest thing to a mall-pretzel-and-cinnamon fix here. Use the Cinnabon store locator to find a current San Diego location.

Parking, valet and EV charging

Self-parking is free in structures A through H and the surface lots around the center. The about page describes ample free parking and no clock to watch.

  • Valet: two lower-level stands, one between The Cheesecake Factory and Neiman Marcus and one in front of Bloomingdale’s. Standard valet is $10 and VIP is $20. Valet runs 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, and there’s a ticketless text option.
  • EV charging: chargers on level P2 of Structure D near Bloomingdale’s south entrance and in a lot by its north entrance. Structure E has 48 Tesla Superchargers.

Weekend afternoons and the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are the busiest. On those days the upper levels of the structures usually have space when the ground floor is full.

Getting there by trolley and bus

The Fashion Valley Transit Center sits on the mall’s southwest corner near JCPenney. It is an elevated Green Line trolley station with a bus plaza underneath, and MTS routes 1, 6, 20, 25, 41, 88, 120 and 928 stop there.

The Green Line runs west to Old Town and downtown (Santa Fe Depot and 12th & Imperial) and east through Mission Valley to SDSU and El Cajon. That makes the mall an easy trolley trip from downtown hotels or a short ride after a morning in Old Town. Check MTS for current schedules and fares.

Tips for visiting

  • Go on a weekday morning if you want an easy parking spot and quiet stores.
  • It is an outdoor mall. Walkways are open-air, which is pleasant most of the year but means a short walk in the sun or occasional rain between stores.
  • Plan around holiday hours. In late November and December the center runs extended holiday hours and Santa photos. Reservations are taken through the mall site.
  • Use the parking structure letters. Directories reference structures A–H, so note where you parked. Structure F is handy for Sephora and The Cheesecake Factory.

Where else to shop in San Diego

Fashion Valley is the pick for luxury and department stores. Depending on what you want, these are worth knowing:

  • A fully indoor mall: Fashion Valley is open-air. If you specifically want an enclosed mall, Westfield Plaza Bonita in National City describes itself as the South Bay’s only indoor mall, and Mershops North County in Escondido (formerly North County Fair) is a multi-level mall built around a central atrium.
  • Westfield UTC (University City): an upscale outdoor center near La Jolla.
  • Westfield Mission Valley: a short drive east in Mission Valley, with value-oriented stores such as Target and Nordstrom Rack.
  • Outlets: Las Americas Premium Outlets near the border and Carlsbad Premium Outlets in North County.
  • Waterfront shopping: Seaport Village downtown for gifts and bay views.
  • Downtown: the former Horton Plaza mall has been redeveloped. See our Horton Plaza guide for what’s there now.
  • Groceries and specialty food: our guide to Asian markets in San Diego covers Mitsuwa and 99 Ranch.

Who Fashion Valley suits

Fashion Valley suits shoppers who want luxury brands in one place, families who want a movie and a dependable restaurant, and visitors without a car who can come by trolley. If you are on a budget, the outlets or Westfield Mission Valley will stretch your money further.
