Sipz Vegetarian Fuzion Cafe
Sipz Vegetarian Fuzion Cafe is located in a strip mall just off highway 805. At first, this seems like your average family owned, Chinese restaurant offering Won Ton soup and Kung Pow Chicken. However, Sipz has some interesting features giving it a steady stream of satisfied customers.
It started off as a boba tea / coffee shop but then expanded to include a generous selection of Asian dishes including Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese and Japanese food.
Although this small cafe offers "Beef and Broccoli", "Kung Pao Chicken", and "Salt and Pepper Shrimp"; this is actually a vegetarian restaurant. This means that the "meat" is not real meat, rather it is soy meat or tofu. All meals are 100% vegetarian and many are vegan (no dairy, no eggs either).
The menu is super easy to decipher: rice bowls, noodle bowls, salad bowls or soup bowls. Meals can be spicy or not. Rice can be white or brown. All bowls are $7.59 (lunch) or $8.85 (dinner).
Don't stop there, you can compliment your bowl with an appetizer, one of their boba drinks and/or a vegan dessert.
It's all very simple, it's fresh, it comes pretty quickly especially considering how busy they are. Taste? Tastes good, I wouldn't call it extraordinary or exquisite, but they are a solid "good".
Kids menu and pre-defined family dinners available.
Also available are vegetarian sushi rolls such as California roll, cucumber roll, and their signature Caterpillar Roll. Small rolls are $3 to $4; large rolls are $8 to $9. Turns out, it's not hard to make vegetarian sushi, you can even have it made with brown rice. See menu.
Sipz doesn't have much of a decor (it's in a strip mall) but it does have a fascinating mural featuring larger-than-life fish and octopus.
There are a few Chinese religious-i
cons but these are along side Star War/bionicle characters. Indeed, it is fuzion. Seating is in the form of wooden tables and chairs with your classic Chinese Zodiac paper place mat. Tables are suited for 2, 4 people with two round tables suitable for 6 or more people. If you are unfortunate enough to come as a 5-some, you will be renegaded to a table-for-four with a chair slammed on the end.
Dining area is a bit tight but that is somewhat expected for this type of establishment. Bathrooms are clean and sufficient.
Sipz is a very satisfactory restaurant: it offers good food at a steady price (not necessarily "cheap" but everything's the same price so you don't have to think). The place is quite popular with a quick turnover: a winning combination of fresh and fast. Taste is generally good but has added feature for being meatless.
(Photo on right: you can drink coconut water straight out of the coconut).
