Rose Garden in Balboa Park
 | | The Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden at Balboa Park was named after Inez Grant Parker (1883 - 1972). An accomplished horsewoman and philanthropist, Mrs Parker devoted time, energy and funds to the betterment of San Diego. The Garden was designed in 1973 by Gerald Garner and funded by the City of San Diego and The Parker Foundation. It is currently maintained by the City of San Diego, The Rose Garden Corps, and the San Diego Rose Society. |
The Inez Garden is an award winning "All American Rose Selection Display Garden". It received the Award of Excellence from the World Federation of Rose Societies: only 4 gardens in the United States has ever received this award.

 | | Currently, the garden has over 2,400 roses representing over 180 varieties. See layout of the garden with the positioning of the flowers here. The roses look their best in April and May, but there are red, orange, yellow, pink, mauve, apricot, and white roses from March through December. Rightfully so, this garden is a favorite spot for wedding photos and romantic meetings.

In addition to roses, this three-acre garden also has some noteworthy elements. Rose beds are organized in concentric circles around these architectural structures. 
A central gazebo covered with rambling plants provide
a shady, sun-dappled place to rest and contemplate.
A tiled water fountain gives off soothing sounds of
trickling water. Children enjoy dipping their hands
into the water, especially on hot days.
To find the Inez Garden, head towards the large water fountain outside the Reuben H Fleet Science Center (map location 11); walk across the footbridge to the east side of Park Blvd. Veer right (south) to find the roses. Veer left (north) to find the Desert Garden.
