Mitsuwa Marketplace:
a Japanese Grocery Store

mitsuwa

Mitsuwa Marketplace is a great place to visit and to shop. This store is jam packed with stuff - that's not so different from your generic grocery store - except that it's all Japanese stuff!

Like many Asian grocery stores, this Japanese Marketplace is filled with lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. In addition to the usual supplies like apples and carrots, this store carries the more exotic supplies such as daikon radish, Japanese cucumbers, Japanese eggplant, shitake mushrooms, and more.

In the meats department, you will find thinly sliced beef and pork suitable for shabu shabu and sukiyaki. The fish is fresh enough to make sushi with. In addition to the usual fish and shrimps, you can also buy eel, squid, octopus, and roe (fish eggs). The chicken is pretty standard.

Aside from meats and vegetables, there's also noodles, dried seaweed, packaged goods, canned goods, jarred goods, picked goods, prepared goods, and all manners of Japanese snacks! You can also buy large sacks of rice here.

It doesn't stop there. This grocer also has:

There's a books store called Sanseido, a sit-down restaurant called Kayaba, and a gift shop filled with Japanese-icon gifts (such as Hello Kitty pencils or Pokemon lunch boxes etc).

Summary

All in all, Mitsuwa Marketplace is a very interesting store to visit. Lots of fresh, prepared, and packaged foods to buy. Even if you don't buy anything, it's just fun to walk up and down the aisles and ogling the colorful packaging.
