Miramar Air Show

miramar air show
For 2011, the Miramar Air Show will be on Sept 30 to Oct 2, 2011.

Every year, San Diegans know that autumn has arrived not by the changing colors of the leaves - rather they know because of the thundering airplanes flying overhead. It's the annual MCAS Miramar Air Show!

Free to the general public, the air show has 100+ military and civilian airplanes for you to discover. You can walk into a cargo plane or climb into the cock pit of a warbird. There's lots to see and explore including static displays, Air Show Expo exhibits, and vendors selling souvenirs and memorabilia.

Up high, in the skies above, trained pilots show off their expertise by doing daredevil aerial acrobatics. There will be a number of military and civilian airplanes; however, the showiest of them all would be the US Navy Blue Angels. The Blue Angels are a Demonstration Squadron - and boy do they demonstrate!

Equally impressive are the Thunderbirds. But don't forget the AV-8B Harrier, the F/A-18 Hornet, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the the Golden Knights parachute Team.

Getting a little overwhelmed by the military power? Ask one of the uniformed military personnel for information. These men and women risk their lives to keep us safe, so give them the respect they rightfully deserve. Representatives from the Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen will be there to answer questions and help.

Organizers expect this event to attract 700,000 spectators over the 3 day period. And why not? The Miramar Air Show wins the title of "Best Air Show" for three times! San Diegans will tell you that it is the biggest & best military air show in the nation.

Most of the Air Show will be outdoors so take precautions: wear a hat, sunblock, and remember to drink plenty of water. The daytime temperature in San Diego in early October is often still quite warm so be aware of that. Walking around the Miramar grounds, entering & exiting the aircrafts, and dealing with the crowds may take more energy than you expect. Pace yourself and enjoy the show safely.
