Coronado Ferry

Coronado Ferry
Photo: Ferry across San Diego Bay.

The Coronado Ferry is a 20 minute boat ride which shuttles commuters across San Diego Bay. The ferry leaves from the Broadway Pier (map) and arrives at the Coronado Pier (map). Sailings begin at 9am and end at 9:30pm. The ferry leaves the Broadway Pier on the hour (9:00, 10:00, 11:00,…) and the return trip from the Coronado departs on the half-hour (9:30, 10:30, 11:30…).

Tickets are $3 (one way) and can be purchased from the San Diego Harbor Excursions ticket booth located at 1050 N. Harbor Dr. For a mere 50 cents, bicycles are allowed on the ferry too. At the Coronado Pier, tickets can be purchased from a vending machine. Or, save time and buy a $6 return-ticket.Coronado Ferry Tickets
The lower deck has a large seating area with windows so that you can view the approach to the Coronado. Bicycles are parked on this lower deck. There is no food served on the ferry, though there is a vending machine. The ride is about 20 minutes, so you minus well wait until you get to the other side and try the restaurants at the Coronado Ferry Landing Marketplace. Coronado Ferry
Many tourists and school-aged children enjoy this mode of public transportation since it can be more of an adventure than a commute. The ferry ride itself is quite exhilarating because you can sit on the upper, open-air deck. Life jackets are stored under the benches. It can be windy on the upper deck, so hold on to your hats!
