Alberts Restaurant at the Zoo
Alberts Restaurant at the world famous San Diego zoo is definitely a cut above the rest.
Most eateries at the zoo serve hot dogs and hamburgers given to you on a cafeteria tray.
Albert's is definitely not like that. Here you will find comfortable seating (see photo on left), good food (not junk food), and service.
The Establishment
Alberts restaurant is located near the monkeys & apes section of the zoo. It is two floors below the gift shop - ask for directions or be an explorer and find it yourself. For the most part, you can't see the restaurant until you are practically at the front door. It is tucked away like a treasure in a forest.
Inside, you will find that Albert's is not ornately decorated: indeed the walls are quite bare because 3 of the 4 walls have large windows so you can see out into the lush landscape.
If you choose to eat outside, you will be placed beside a crashing waterfall and a flowing river. It is quite amazing!
Most seating is in the form of tables and chairs, though there are a few bar-side seats. Tables are adorn with fresh orchids & flowers. complimentary warm bread & whipped butter.
Albert's is a full-service restaurant. At peak hours, it is often full to capacity with a 20-30 minute wait.
The Food
Compared to the other "fast food" offered at the zoo, this place is simply the best. Even without comparison, the food here is still notable. The general focus is seafood and Southwestern.
- Appetizers such as potstickers, empanada, & artichoke dip.
- Salads such as Caesar, or Cobb
- Entrees such as roasted chicken, seared halibut, steak, tiger prawns on ravioli, pizza, sandwiches, wraps, and quesadilla.
- kids menu available
- full bar with wine, beer, and cocktails
